Smart Growth America's 2025 Equity Summit: Building forward, a shared movement for vibrant communities, will gather housing, transportation, and community development advocates and leaders to learn from one another and identify tools to advance racial equity through smart growth.  This event, hosted March 26-27 at the MLK Memorial Library in Washington DC, aims to connect movement leaders, identify key needs within the field, and build a community of mutual support and encouragement among practitioners who may be discouraged by resistance to meaningful progress. This is work some of us have been waiting for, for years. My work life has been, being the only minority at the executive level. Having to make yourself smaller so you don't threaten anyone. While having to work harder and jump higher than your counterparts. Racism, sexisim, bias and privilege assaulting every day. While we are expected to smile about it so we don't make the wrong person uncomfortable or worse cry. Their tears weaponized.  I craved support that wasn't there. I am happy to see that maybe the future will be better.
