    IPMI Community -

We are seeing a wide variety of citation collections methods being implemented including but not limited to:

    • vehicle immobilization
    • vehicle towing and impoundment
    • vehicle registration holds
    • debt setoff programs
    • parking permit renewal holds, etc.

All of these citation collection methods are state or locally legislated, and have generally remained unchanged for years.  Asking our community:

    • what is the ideal parking citation collection process you've used or seen work in the industry?

I'd love to hear answers that are unconstrained by current legislation, and new and innovative processes are welcomed. Thanks!

In my home town of Omaha, I know they have a policy that if people pay their citation within a certain number of days, they receive a discount. It's basically a reverse-psychology late fee. It puts a positive spin on on-time payments for the customers and their data says that it has increase the frequency and timeliness of payments. (Omaha folks, feel free to chime in with more specifics.)

I moved out of Omaha a couple of years ago and didn't realize they had been doing this.  Granted I was on the County government side, not the City side and not in parking then.   Love seeing what they have been accomplishing lately.

Hello!  I am the Parking Services Manager for the City of Wilmington, De.  I see the value of mailing citations.  At the forefront is the safety of our officers.  I also see the reduction in expenses such as paper tickets and mailing costs.  In addition, I see the potential for increased efficiency.

Our current City Code specifies that tickets "shall be affixed to the vehicle."  I would like to hear from anyone who has successfully or unsuccessfully implemented mailing parking citations.

    Thanks!
